Played by four players in fixed partnerships with an 80-card deck (A, 10, K, Q, J in four suits, four copies of each). Each deal starts with an auction from 50; the winning bidder names trump (holding at least a marriage in it), everyone shows their meld, then 20 tricks are played with forced-win rules. A, 10 and K are counters — 50 points per deal. First team to 500 points wins.

Do you have to win a trick to score meld?

Yes — a team that takes no trick at all scores no meld that deal.

What are the card values?

Ace, 10 and King are 1 point each in tricks; Queen and Jack score nothing. The last trick adds 2 points, making 50 points per deal.

What happens when a bid fails?

The bidding team scores nothing and the bid amount is subtracted from their score; the defenders keep their meld and trick points.
